| About Shemer Bar
Review
• Why do you place so much
emphasis on the written portion of the exam?
• Do I need to take a separate essay
specialty course or a separate MBE specialty course if I take Shemer
Maryland & Multistate Bar Review?
• How is Shemer Maryland & Multistate
Bar Review different from other full service bar reviews?
• You talk about a Mentor in your materials.
How does that work?
• How does Shemer Maryland & Multistate
Bar Review compare, time-wise and cost-wise,
to other courses?
• I have already put down a deposit with
another bar review course. What can I do?
• With your limited class size, how can I
be sure that there will be a place in the course for me?
• I live around Washington, D.C. How can I take
your course?

Shemer Maryland & Multistate Bar Review focuses heavily on the
written test (Maryland Essay Test and Multistate Performance Test) for three reasons. First, the written test is worth twice
as much as the MBE. To calculate scores, the written test scale score
and MBE scale score are combined using the following formula:
Total score = (Written Test Scale Score X 2) + MBE Scale Score.
Second, before July 2000, if you passed the written test or MBE sufficiently,
but not the entire exam, you could carryover the passing score to
the next exam, permitting you to take only the exam you did not
pass. NO MORE. You may no longer "carryover" a passing
score on the written test or the MBE from a previous examination.
Third, the written test is far more subjective in
its grading than the MBE. We have analyzed every essay test given
by the Maryland Bar Examiners over the last twenty years for frequently
tested subjects and successful answers. This information has helped
us develop our point winning strategies to give you the edge you
need on the written test.

Absolutely not. Shemer
Maryland & Multistate Bar Review includes all you need in one
course. Our B.E.S.T. Program For Essay Excellence will give you
more essay writing practice, MPT writing practice and more one-to-one feedback than any
essay specialty course. Plus, our MBE preparation incorporates into
the classes and small group meetings training specifically for the
MBE.

With Shemer Maryland & Multistate Bar Review, everything is
integrated into one course. You don't need to spend extra money
or extra weekend time taking other separate MBE specialty or essay
specialty courses, as students who take other courses sometimes
do.
Our focus is test taking, rather than just the law. In addition
to top-quality substantive law classes in every subject, there are
full classes devoted to MBE and essay question analysis in each
subject. These question analysis classes are where you learn how
to use the law we teach you.
Our faculty is made up of primarily Maryland professors and lawyers.
Our instructors know the Maryland Bar Exam. Out-of-state attorneys
and professors can learn Maryland law, but how well do they know
the Maryland bar exam?
You will meet every week for one hour with your small group and
Dan Shemer or another Shemer Bar Review faculty member. During that
meeting, we will read your answers to essay questions you were previously
assigned and tell you what you did well and how you can improve
your writing. You can ask questions about aspects of the law with
which you are struggling or anything else about your preparation.
At the next week's meeting, your faculty leader will see how you
have implemented the suggestions given. The result is that you and
your instructor can monitor your progress together and focus on
improving your skills from week to week.
Everything we do is face-to-face. Your small group leader will be
in the room with you every week. If you don't understand some feedback
or suggestion, you can ask for help right then and there. Other
courses may send you written responses about your essay answers
or assign you an out-of-state mentor who may not be familiar with
the Maryland exam. Long distance phone calls or written notes on
a page are no replacement for personal contact.
You will never be stuck in
a classroom watching videotapes. All of our lectures are live. The
classes are interactive, so you won't drift off or fall asleep.
And during or at the end of each class, the instructor will take
questions from you to ensure that you don't go home confused.
Because class size is limited to 100 students, we can practice what
we preach. Limiting enrollment gives us the time to keep the focus
on you throughout the course and tailor your bar preparation experience
to your needs.
I encourage you to talk to recent graduates to
compare the courses and learn about their experiences with other
courses.

Shemer Bar Review stands behind its commitment to personal attention
by ensuring that you develop a personal relationship with your Mentor.
First, whenever possible, your Mentor also will be your small group
leader. Because you already meet once a week for practice and discussion,
your Mentor will be familiar with you and the areas in which you
need help. Just as importantly, you will get to know your Mentor
through the frequent contact. Second, you will be provided with
an email address and phone number so you can contact your Mentor
quickly if you have a question or just want to touch base about
something.
