Updated Statement on Maryland's Transition to the UBE
The State Board of Law Examiners continues its transition to the UBE. Pursuant to the November 20, 2017 announcement by the Court of Appeals of Maryland, the State Board of Law Examiners intends and expects to administer the UBE in July 2019. [emphasis added]
The State Board of Law Examiners intends and expects to begin accepting transfers of UBE scores earned in other UBE jurisdictions on July 1, 2019. The State Board of Law Examiners intends and expects to begin accepting Petitions for admission without examination from experienced out-of-state attorneys on July 1, 2019.
In furtherance of Maryland’s transition to the UBE, the Court of Appeals’ Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure (“Rules Committee”), at its meeting on September 6, 2018, will consider proposed Rules adopting the UBE and governing the Maryland bar admission process under UBE. The proposed Rules governing the UBE in Maryland may be reviewed on the Rules Commitee's meeting agenda.
