Daniel M. Shemer

Nationally Recognized Speaker

Mr. Shemer is a dynamic speaker and has lectured in Maryland and nationally on criminal law, evidence and criminal defense advocacy topics, presenting to attorneys in New York, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, Kentucky, the District of Columbia and Maryland. He delivered the keynote addresses at the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association conference, Train the Trainers conference and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The Best Defense conference. He is a two-time recipient of the President’s Award from the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association and a recipient of the Alan H. Murrell Award from the Maryland Office of the Public Defender. In 2015, Mr. Shemer presented to Maryland's judges at the Maryland Judicial Institute's Training Program, Evidence in Criminal Cases.

Adjunct Law Professor

Mr. Shemer has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law since 1992 where he has taught Trial Advocacy, Litigation Process and the Criminal Practice Clinic. He was a Visiting Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland School of Law Summer Clinic in 1993.  He was recognized with the “Outstanding Teaching by an Adjunct Faculty Award” in 2004.

Practicing Attorney/Trainer

Appointed as the first Director of Training and Continuing Education for the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) for the State of Maryland, Mr. Shemer developed educational programs for all OPD staff and continues to train lawyers in Maryland and across the country. In addition, he has practiced in Maryland’s Courts for more than 20 years.

Shemer Bar Review

Mr. Shemer began his bar review career in 1981, lecturing for a national bar review vendor on multiple subjects.  In 1982, he founded Shemer Bar Review with Shemer’s Essay Techniques (SET), preparation specifically for the Maryland essay test.  With 17 years of experience teaching for the Maryland bar exam, Mr. Shemer designed and introduced the company’s flagship comprehensive course. Shemer Bar Review continues to offer comprehensive, supplemental and individual tutoring services exclusively for the Maryland bar exam, featuring live, student-focused, skills-based instruction.
